The Event

The true heroes of the World’s largest humanitarian aid & relief operation to date were without a doubt the pilots, the crews and the ground crews of the “Candy Bombers”
Of the aircraft that were involved at the time about 160 are still flying today.
With an enormous amount of tender love and care they are kept in flying condition by private owners, foundations and museums.

From all over the World

In June 2019, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of the 1948/1949 Berlin Airlift, these historic Candy Bombers will come back to Germany and Berlin. For what will no doubt be the very last time.
From all over the Globe aircraft of the types Douglas DC-3/C-47, Douglas DC-4/C-54 and Junkers JU-52 will make their way to the German capital. Confirmed to date are aircraft from all over Europe and over 20 from the United States. A Douglas DC-4 will make its way to Europe from South-Africa. And one of the owners has his C-47 in Australia and will also do his utmost to be there.

The Airlift to “See, Touch & Hear”

Over 40 of these historic winged workhorses will come. This is sufficient to recreate the actual Berlin Airlift one more time, with minute interval take-offs. The Event will incorporate public airport days, school- and youth projects. And for the very first time in history the Berlin Airlift will be shown to and can be experienced by the current generation.

At the US Airbase Wiesbaden-Erbenheim, at German Airbase Faßberg and at Berlin Schönhagen Airport the crews will be present with their machines. So everyone can see, touch and hear what it was really like!

For 9 days, from Easter Monday the 10th of June 2019, until Tuesday evening the 18th of June 2019, the “Candy Bombers” will be in the air and on the ground at the historic Airlift airbases of Wiesbaden-Erbenheim and Faßberg and Berlin-Schönhagen Airport. And of course they will be over Berlin!
